Rebecca Theobald is an assistant research professor in the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs where she directs
GeoCivics, asking geographic questions to address redistricting and emphasizing the role geospatial technology plays in drawing electoral districts. From 2008 through 2018, she served as coordinator of the Colorado Geographic Alliance and is editor of the National Council for Geographic Education’s journal, “The Geography Teacher”. GeoCivics brings together a suite of resources to support educators and community organizers to explore the process of apportionment and redistricting in the United States. Students and community members are guided in asking geographic questions about the census, population distribution, redistricting criteria, understanding of communities, and the role geospatial technology plays in drawing electoral districts, including online tools to draw one’s own maps. |
